Radial Joinery supplied and fitted a bespoke ledged and braced door for a cottage property in Glentworth near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. The new door replaced a worn external store door and was designed to match the character of the building while improving security and weather protection.

Client Brief

The client required a new timber door for the coal shed located beside the main house. The original door had deteriorated over time and no longer provided good protection from the weather.

Traditional Ledged & Braced Construction

We manufactured the new door in softwood using a traditional ledged and braced construction. This method gives good strength and stability while keeping the classic cottage appearance.

We also supplied and fitted a new timber frame so the door sat correctly within the opening and provided a secure fit.

Traditional Ironmongery

The door was fitted with black T hinges and a traditional Suffolk latch. These details suit the cottage style and help keep the original character of the outbuilding.

Paint Finish

We spray applied a durable paint finish to both sides of the door, colour matched to Little Greene “Vulcan”. Spray finishing gives a smooth surface and provides better protection than brush painting.

The frame was finished in white to create contrast around the opening and to complement the surrounding brickwork.
