About Radial Joinery

Radial Joinery is a bespoke joinery manufacturer based in Lincoln. We design, manufacture and install purpose-made
fitted furniture,
timber windows,
bespoke doors,
heritage joinery
and other specialist timber products.

Every project is made to order in our Lincoln workshop to suit the individual property, space and requirements of the client.

Built on More Than 25 Years of Joinery Experience

Radial Joinery was founded by Ian Metheringham, who has more than 25 years of experience working in the joinery trade. Ian began his career through a traditional trade apprenticeship and gained an NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry and Joinery.

His career progressed from bench joinery through to workshop management before he established Radial Joinery in Lincoln.

Today, that practical workshop experience remains at the heart of the business. We combine traditional joinery skills with modern machinery, careful material selection and hands-on installation experience.

Our aim is simple: to make joinery that fits properly, works as it should and suits the property it was designed for.

Heritage, Period and Listed Building Joinery

A significant part of our work involves older properties, period homes and listed buildings where standard off-the-shelf products may not be suitable.

Where appropriate, we can reproduce existing timber profiles, mouldings, windows, doors and architectural features to retain the character and proportions of the original building.

Our work may include:

  • Replicating existing timber windows and doors
  • Matching original mouldings and timber profiles
  • Manufacturing sliding sash and traditional casement windows
  • Repairing suitable historic timber joinery where practical
  • Creating replacement joinery for listed and period properties

Where a project involves listed building consent, conservation requirements or Building Control approval, the requirements will depend on the individual property and the proposed work.

Accoya Approved Manufacturer

Radial Joinery is an
Accoya Approved Manufacturer.

We frequently use Accoya for external timber windows, doors and heritage joinery because of its stability, durability and resistance to movement.

Its dimensional stability can help reduce swelling, sticking and movement in external joinery. It can also help improve the long-term performance of suitable coating systems.

However, timber selection always depends on the individual project. We also work with other quality timbers, including Sapele, oak, tulipwood and selected softwoods where appropriate.

Designed Around the Property and the People Using It

Good bespoke joinery should do more than look attractive. It should work properly within the space, suit the property and meet the practical needs of the people using it.

For fitted furniture, that may mean designing storage around an awkward alcove, sloping ceiling or existing room feature. For windows and doors, it may involve matching original proportions while improving everyday operation and performance.

Because we manufacture joinery to order, we are not restricted to standard sizes or fixed designs. This gives us the flexibility to create individual solutions for unusual openings, period properties and spaces where standard products simply do not fit.

How Our Bespoke Joinery Process Works

  1. Initial enquiry:
Tell us about your project and provide photographs, approximate measurements and any drawings or inspiration images where possible.
  2. Initial review and guidance:
We review the information provided and advise whether the project is suitable for Radial Joinery. Where possible, we may provide an initial estimate or discuss the likely next step.
  3. Site visit and detailed measurements:
For suitable projects that progress further, we arrange any required site survey, detailed measurements and discussion of materials, finishes and design requirements.
  4. Design and specification:
Where required, we develop drawings and agree the important details before manufacture begins.
  5. Manufacture in our Lincoln workshop:
We manufacture the joinery using traditional bench skills combined with modern machinery for accuracy and consistency.
  6. Finishing and installation:
Depending on the project, joinery can be supplied unfinished, primed, spray finished or treated with a suitable timber finish. Where installation is included, our own team fits the completed joinery.
