Bespoke Arched Timber Door in West Stockwith near Doncaster

We designed and installed a bespoke arched timber door for a period property in West Stockwith near Doncaster. The property sits within a conservation area, so the new door had to match the original Gothic stone arch while improving security and durability.

Accurate Templating for an Arched Opening

We carefully templated the opening so the new frame would follow the exact curve of the existing stonework. This allowed us to produce a handcrafted arched frame that fitted perfectly within the original opening.

We then built a traditional ledged and braced door using Douglas Fir. This timber offers good stability and strength while still keeping the correct appearance for a period property.

Traditional Materials for Period Properties

The client also considered oak for the door. However, Douglas Fir provided excellent stability and better value while still maintaining a traditional look.

Traditional Ironmongery and Protective Finish

We fitted quality brass ironmongery to suit the character of the property. Choosing the correct hardware helps the door look authentic while also improving durability.

To protect the timber, we applied a Sikkens two-part microporous finish. This type of finish protects the wood from weather while still allowing it to breathe naturally.
