Timber Gable Finial in Lincoln
This timber gable finial in Lincoln was manufactured for a converted water tower in Potterhanworth, Lincolnshire. The original finial had badly deteriorated over time, so the customer asked us to manufacture a like-for-like replacement that matched the original detailing and proportions.
This project forms part of our heritage and period joinery in Lincoln service as well as our bespoke mouldings and woodturning in Lincoln work.
Bespoke Timber Gable Finial Manufactured In-House
We manufactured the new timber gable finial in-house using traditional woodturning techniques. Matching the original profile correctly was important because the finial sits at roof level and forms a visible part of the building.
The original timber finial had suffered from long-term weather exposure and timber decay. Sections of the original piece had started to fail, making replacement the best long-term option.
By manufacturing the new finial in-house, we could carefully copy the shape, proportions and detailing from the original section. This allowed the replacement timber gable finial to suit the converted water tower and maintain the character of the property.
Traditional Joinery for Heritage Properties
Many period and heritage buildings use decorative timber roof finials to add detail and character to gable ends and rooflines. Standard off-the-shelf designs often do not match the proportions or style of older buildings.
Because of this, bespoke timber gable finials often provide the best solution for restoration and heritage projects.
After manufacture, we prepared and primed the new finial ready for installation and final decoration on site.
