Bespoke Heritage Door & Portico Restoration in Carlton-le-Moorland
We carried out this heritage door and portico restoration project at a Grade II listed property in Carlton-le-Moorland near Lincoln.
The original entrance surround had suffered from years of decay. Rot and historic insect damage had affected large areas of the timber. Some sections crumbled as soon as we touched them. We carried out careful restoration work throughout the project to retain as much of the original timber as possible.
This project forms part of our heritage and period joinery services in Lincoln and our wider bespoke timber doors in Lincoln service.
Traditional Door Restoration for a Listed Property
We carefully removed the original front door and temporarily boarded up the entrance. This allowed us to complete the restoration work safely in the workshop.
We stripped the door back to bare timber so we could fully inspect all damaged sections. We repaired the door using traditional timber repairs alongside specialist Repair Care resin repair systems.
While the door was in the workshop, we upgraded the security by fitting a modern multi-point locking system. This improved security while keeping the traditional appearance of the property.
Repairing the Original Timber Portico
Once we completed the door restoration, we returned the door to site and rehung it. We then moved onto restoring the original timber portico and entrance surround.
Our goal throughout the project was to save as much of the original timber as possible. We only replaced sections that were beyond repair.
We manufactured new timber sections to match the original mouldings and architectural details. This helped preserve the character of the property while improving durability.
The restored entrance surround included traditional fluted pilasters, decorative mouldings and a heritage-style pediment. We manufactured each section to suit the original design of the property.
Traditional Heritage Finishes
We refinished the front door externally in Farrow & Ball Down Pipe and internally in Farrow & Ball Jasmine White.
The dark finish of the door contrasts with the lighter painted portico. This helped highlight the restored architectural details while remaining in keeping with the age and style of the building.
Projects like this require careful restoration work and respect for the original building fabric. We regularly work on period and listed properties across Lincoln and Lincolnshire. Our work includes timber repairs, moulding replication and heritage joinery restoration.
