Bespoke Alcove Cupboard in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire
We designed and installed this bespoke alcove cupboard in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire to mirror an existing unit in the opposite alcove. The client wanted improved storage, perfect symmetry and a finish that looked original to the property. The new cupboard measures approximately 2300mm high, 1000mm wide and 470mm deep. These proportions were matched to the original unit so both alcoves feel balanced within the room.
By manufacturing the cupboard to suit the exact space, we achieved a clean fitted appearance rather than something that looks retrofitted. Purpose made joinery allows better proportions, tighter joints and a higher quality finish than standard furniture.
Shaker Style Doors with Matching Period Detailing
The cupboard features full-length shaker style doors with recessed panels, a design that suits both modern and traditional interiors. We often complete similar work as part of our bespoke wardrobes in Lincoln and fitted furniture projects where a consistent style is required throughout the room.
To ensure both alcoves matched perfectly, we replaced the cornice and skirting on the existing cabinet. This allowed the new and old units to share identical mouldings and proportions, creating a seamless fitted result.
Simple polished pull knobs keep the design clean, while concealed soft-close hinges provide smooth and quiet operation.
Moisture Resistant Materials for Painted Furniture
We manufactured the cabinet using Finsa Hidrófugo moisture-resistant MDF for the painted exterior components. This material provides excellent stability and is ideal for fitted furniture that will be spray finished.
Inside the cupboard we used oak veneered MDF for the shelving. The natural oak grain adds warmth and contrast against the painted shaker doors, while adjustable shelves allow flexible storage.
Workshop Spray Preparation for a Smooth Finish
All doors were prepared in our workshop before installation. After sanding and checking the surfaces, we applied two coats of spray primer and undercoat to create a smooth base ready for final decoration.
Spray finishing produces a consistent surface without brush marks and gives fitted furniture a professional finish.
