Bespoke sapele Victorian front door conversion at Grade II listed property in Nettleham.

Overview

We recently designed and installed a bespoke Victorian front door for a Grade II listed property in Nettleham, Lincoln.

The original entrance featured traditional double front doors. The brief was to convert these into a single large entrance door while preserving the appearance, symmetry and character of the original Victorian design.

Because the property is Grade II listed, we liaised directly with local planning and heritage conservation officers throughout the design process. This ensured the proposed adaptation remained fully compliant while respecting the architectural integrity of the building.

We manufactured the new door in sapele hardwood, carefully detailing the exterior to replicate the appearance of twin doors. Although the entrance now functions as a single secure door, the proportions and moulding layout maintain the traditional Victorian aesthetic.

To improve performance, we removed the original brush strips and installed new compression weather seals. We also fitted a three-point multipoint locking system with a three-star euro cylinder to enhance security without compromising heritage styling.

Finally, we applied end grain sealer followed by two coats of primer and undercoat, finished with a satin top coat. The interior was finished in white, with the exterior colour specified to suit the property.

The completed installation retains the historic character of the entrance while delivering modern standards of security, durability and weather protection. This project highlights our experience working on listed buildings and period properties throughout Lincolnshire.
