Radial Joinery are respected professionals who have worked on a range of period properties, heritage or listed buildings, and buildings in conservation areas. This includes funded projects where all work must be carried out to a very high standard. We know all about the regulations, standards and approvals involved in working with heritage properties, both private homes and buildings used by the public. From a homeowner looking to replace broken spinals with replicated ones on the stairway of their Georgian property to completely reinstating the panelling beneath the window of a listed building to match the other reception room. Radial Joinery offers professional help.

How about some examples?

A big part of this work is creating items to replace those that are damaged beyond repair and making sure they are like-for-like with what was there before, including using the same materials and carpentry techniques. We always use traditional methods and materials where possible, including, for example, lime mortar.

We can also restore or repair aged/damaged items (like windows, spindles or doors) with like-for-like methods and materials, so that the restoration is completely in keeping with the existing woodwork and the surrounding building.

We also offer maintenance services for historic sites, to prevent the need for extensive repairs or replacements.  Replacing / splicing a small area of rot on a heritage window, catching the problem early, will ensure you don’t need to replace the window in a few years’ time – which will then be much more costly and invasive to the structure of the building.

As part of our heritage work Radial Joinery can also create bespoke timber mouldings to match those in your period property, as often these mouldings are no longer available commercially and need to be made as a one-off. With this service, we produce custom made cutters to match the mouldings in your property, so you can, for example, easily replace a section of a deep skirting board that’s no longer for sale in your standard DIY store.

Applying for Listed Building Consent

We can also apply for Listed Building Consent for you to make sure any work is approved before we start. We can check and explain Conservation Area Rule making sure your plans and our work complies with these.
