Overview

Bespoke Oak French Doors with Side Screens in Scothern, Lincolnshire

Radial Joinery designed and installed a pair of bespoke oak doors with matching side screens at a property in Scothern, Lincolnshire. We removed the original aluminium sliding patio doors and replaced them with custom timber doors to improve both the appearance and performance of the opening.

Replacing older patio doors with bespoke timber joinery can greatly improve the warmth, security and character of a room. Projects like this form part of our bespoke timber doors in Lincoln as well as our wider bespoke joinery services in Lincoln.

Replacing Aluminium Sliding Doors

The original opening contained dated aluminium sliding doors between the living room and conservatory. Although the doors worked, they reduced the overall character of the room and provided limited insulation.

We designed the new doors to suit the existing opening while improving both the proportions and the overall finish.

Bespoke Oak Doors with Side Screens

We manufactured the replacement doors from solid oak and added narrow side screens to increase the glazed area. As a result, more natural light now flows between the living room and conservatory while the strength of solid timber joinery is maintained.

Oak is a popular choice for this type of project because it offers excellent stability, long service life and a natural appearance. In addition, oak suits both traditional and modern interiors.

Parliament Hinges for Full Opening

We hung the doors on parliament hinges so they can fold fully back against the wall. This allows the full width of the opening to be used and lets more light enter the room when the doors are open.

This type of hinge works well on bespoke doors where a wider opening is required.

Multi Point Locking System

We fitted a five point multipoint locking system to the main door to provide secure locking along the full height of the frame. The slave door also includes handle operated top and bottom bolts so both leaves lock firmly together.

Modern locking systems allow traditional timber doors to meet current security standards while keeping the look of handcrafted joinery.

Osmo UV Protection Oil Finish

We finished the doors with Osmo UV protection oil in a matt finish. This oil enhances the natural grain of the oak and protects the timber from sunlight and everyday wear.

Oil finishes are often used on bespoke timber doors because they provide strong protection and remain easy to maintain.
