Overview

Sash Window Repair in Lincoln – Listed Building Timber Repairs

Radial Joinery carried out this sash window repair in Lincoln at a Grade II listed period house. The windows had rot in several areas, so we repaired the timber using splicing methods together with the Repair Care system. This type of work forms part of our heritage joinery in Lincoln and our timber window repairs in Lincoln.

Repair Work on a Grade II Listed Property

Because the house is listed, we had to repair the original windows instead of replacing them. Listed buildings often require the existing joinery to stay in place. For this reason, careful repair work is usually the best option.

We carry out sash window repairs across Lincoln where older windows need to stay but still need to be made sound.

Cutting Out the Rotten Timber

We first removed all damaged timber from the frames and sills. We cut the wood back to solid material so the repair would last. After this, we prepared the window for new timber pieces and resin repairs.

Accurate work is important on sash windows because the sashes must still slide correctly after the repair.

Splicing New Timber into the Window

Where the damage was larger, we spliced new timber into the frame. This method keeps most of the original window while replacing the weak areas. Because of this, the window keeps its original look but becomes strong again.

Splicing is often used on period houses where full replacement is not allowed.

Repair Care Resin Repairs

We used the Repair Care system for smaller damaged areas. This resin is made for timber window repairs and works well on older joinery. It allows us to rebuild corners, mouldings and edges.

After shaping and sanding, the repair blends into the original window. As a result, the repair is strong but also looks correct for the age of the building.

Prepared Ready for Painting

Once the repairs were complete, we prepared the windows for painting. Good preparation helps protect the timber and makes the repair last longer.

We often carry out this type of work alongside our bespoke joinery services in Lincoln, where we repair and make timber joinery for older homes.
