We manufactured and installed a replacement handrail section and half newel post for this Victorian property on Cross O’ Cliff Hill in Lincoln.
The original staircase featured traditional turned balusters and detailed joinery. Parts of the handrail and half newel had deteriorated over time. The client wanted replacement joinery that matched the existing staircase as closely as possible.
This project forms part of our heritage and period joinery in Lincoln service as well as our wider bespoke joinery services in Lincoln.
Victorian Staircase Handrail Replacement in Lincoln
We had custom cutters produced to match the original handrail profile exactly. This allowed the new section to flow naturally into the existing staircase without visible changes in shape or detail.
We manufactured the replacement handrail in Sapele. The timber provided the durability needed for a high-use staircase while still complementing the original timber tones within the property.
Bespoke Half Newel Post Manufactured to Match Existing
Alongside the handrail work, we also manufactured an exact copy of the existing half newel post. We produced the newel in walnut to match the darker timber detailing already present within the staircase.
We measured each component carefully and machined the new parts to suit the original Victorian staircase.
Projects like this require accurate profiling, careful workshop preparation and precise fitting on site to preserve the character of older properties.
