Overview

Bespoke Victorian Front Door for Grade II Listed Property in Nettleham, Lincolnshire

We designed and installed this bespoke Victorian front door for a Grade II listed property in Nettleham, Lincolnshire. This project forms part of our heritage and period joinery in Lincoln and our wider bespoke joinery services in Lincoln. We regularly manufacture replacement joinery for traditional and listed buildings across Lincolnshire.

The original entrance had traditional double doors. The client wanted to change this to one large entrance door while keeping the symmetry and character of the original Victorian design. Because the property is listed, we worked closely with local planning and conservation officers during the design stage.

This ensured the new door remained compliant while still matching the style of the building.

Traditional Appearance with Modern Joinery Construction

We manufactured the new door in sapele hardwood. This timber is often used for external joinery because it is strong and durable. The outside face was detailed to look like twin doors, even though the entrance now works as a single door.

As a result, the door is stronger and more secure while still keeping the original Victorian appearance. Projects like this form part of our bespoke timber doors in Lincoln, where each door is made to suit the property instead of using standard sizes.

Improved Weather Sealing and Security

We removed the original brush seals and fitted compression weather seals. These provide better protection against draughts and rain while allowing the door to close smoothly.

We also installed a three-point multipoint locking system with a three-star euro cylinder. This gives modern security without changing the traditional look of the door.

Finishing Suitable for Listed Buildings

Before painting, we sealed all end grain to protect the timber. We then applied two coats of primer and undercoat, followed by a satin top coat chosen to suit the property.

Careful finishing is important on period joinery. It protects the timber and helps the new work blend with the existing building. On similar projects we may also use high-performance timbers such as Accoya for external joinery where long service life is required.
