Overview

Bespoke Accoya Arched Garden Gate in Brant Broughton

We manufactured and installed this bespoke Accoya arched garden gate in Brant Broughton, Lincolnshire.

The original gate had suffered from movement and construction issues. The client wanted a stronger replacement that kept the simple boarded appearance and fitted the pointed brick arch correctly.

This project forms part of our bespoke doors in Lincoln service and our wider bespoke joinery services in Lincoln.

Bespoke Accoya Arched Garden Gate

We made the new gate to fit the existing pointed arch opening. Its shape follows the surrounding brickwork and maintains the traditional appearance of the entrance.

For the main section, we used a single sheet of Tricoya. This avoided the movement problems that had affected the previous boarded gate.

We machined grooves into the face to create the appearance of traditional V-grooved boards. As a result, the gate kept the style of the original while gaining a more stable construction.

We used Accoya for the rails because it performs well in exposed external locations. Accoya offers excellent stability and resistance to decay, which makes it suitable for purpose-made gates and doors. More information is available from Accoya.

Original Ironmongery Retained

The original hook-and-band hinges formed part of the character of the property. They were also built into the surrounding brickwork. Therefore, we retained and reused them rather than removing sound original features.

We also reused part of the existing latch arrangement. However, we replaced the Suffolk latch to improve everyday operation.

This approach allowed us to retain important original details while introducing a new and more reliable gate.

Red Spray-Applied Finish

We originally colour matched the finish to Little Greene Theatre Red 192. The final repaint used Flame Red, RAL 3000, which created a bold contrast against the original red brickwork.

We prepared the gate and applied the finish in our Lincoln workshop before installation. The completed gate now follows the pointed entrance arch and complements the other joinery across the front of the property.

As part of the same commission, we also manufactured and installed bespoke Accoya arched timber windows in Brant Broughton. Linking the two projects shows how the new joinery works together across the property.
