Radial Joinery designed, manufactured and installed five bespoke Accoya timber windows for this distinctive property in Brant Broughton, Lincolnshire.
The project included four large pointed-arch windows and one smaller directly glazed window. Each unit was made to fit its individual brick opening while retaining the proportions and architectural character of the building.

Made-to-Measure Windows for Pointed Arches
Standard rectangular windows would not have suited the tall pointed arches at the front of the property. The replacement joinery therefore needed to follow the existing brickwork accurately while creating a balanced arrangement across all five openings.
We measured each opening individually and used the recorded dimensions to manufacture the shaped frames in our Lincoln workshop. This allowed the curved heads, glazing arrangements and opening sections to be prepared specifically for the building.
The completed windows follow the original architectural shapes rather than forcing the openings to accept standard manufactured units.
Accoya Timber for External Windows
We manufactured the windows from Accoya. Radial Joinery is an Accoya Approved Manufacturer, and we regularly use the timber for premium painted external joinery.
Accoya provides excellent dimensional stability and resistance to timber decay. Its low levels of swelling and shrinkage help opening sashes operate reliably and support the long-term performance of joints, glazing and painted finishes.
It can also be machined accurately into the shaped sections, glazing bars and mouldings required for traditional-looking or non-standard windows.
Window Design and Opening Arrangements
The project included four pointed-arch window units together with one smaller directly glazed window.
The shaped heads were designed to follow the brick arches, while slim glazing bars helped maintain suitable proportions across the elevation. The directly glazed window incorporated a single horizontal duplex bar.
The opening sections were fitted with lockable satin-chrome handles and stays. Stainless-steel bearing hinges provided smooth operation and durable support for the sashes.
Double Glazing with Duplex Bars
We fitted Pilkington clear soft-coat double-glazed units with argon-filled cavities and warm-edge spacer bars.
Duplex glazing bars were incorporated to create the appearance of smaller individual panes while allowing modern sealed double-glazed units to be used. This provided a more convincing traditional appearance than glazing bars positioned only inside the glass.
The glazing specification improved thermal performance while allowing the new windows to retain the detailed appearance required by the property.
White Spray-Applied Window Finish
All exposed end grain was sealed before the complete three-coat finishing system was applied in our workshop.
The windows were spray finished in white on both the internal and external faces. Applying the coating under workshop conditions produced an even finish and provided protection before the windows arrived on site.
Accoya’s stability makes it particularly well suited to high-quality painted window systems because reduced timber movement places less stress on joints and coatings.
Installation and Building Regulations
Once manufacture, glazing and finishing were complete, we installed the windows into their individual openings and checked the fit and operation of each unit.
The local building authority inspected the completed installation and confirmed compliance with the applicable requirements.
The finished windows provide improved glazing, security and weather performance while preserving the pointed-arch appearance that gives the property its distinctive character.
Matching Accoya Arched Garden Gate
As part of the same project, Radial Joinery also manufactured a bespoke Accoya arched garden gate in Brant Broughton.
The red gate sits beside the new windows and follows the architectural character of the property. Manufacturing both elements allowed the materials, curved details and overall appearance to be considered together.
Manufactured in Our Lincoln Workshop
Every window was manufactured to order in our Lincoln workshop before installation in Brant Broughton.
Producing the joinery in-house gave us control over the recorded measurements, shaped frames, glazing bars, sash preparation, ironmongery and finished coating system throughout the project.
