Timber Sash Window Splicing & Repairs in Lincoln

We carried out these sash window repairs in Lincoln for a client with traditional vertical sliding timber windows showing areas of decay beneath years of paint.

The project covered the front bay windows together with two rear vertical sliding sash windows. Once the old paint was removed, we could properly assess the condition of the timber and identify the sections that needed localised repair.

Rather than replacing complete windows unnecessarily, we removed damaged timber where required, fitted new timber splice sections and used a specialist epoxy repair system in suitable areas. The aim was to retain as much sound original timber as possible while leaving the windows structurally sound and ready for final preparation and decoration.

Sash Window Repairs in Lincoln

Timber deterioration is not always easy to judge while a window remains covered in several layers of paint. Small cracks or soft areas on the surface can hide more extensive decay underneath.

For this project, removing the existing paint exposed the true condition of the timber. We could then work through each affected section individually and decide where a splice repair or specialist resin repair offered the most appropriate solution.

The photographs show several stages of the process, from the original painted windows through to exposed decayed timber, removal of damaged sections and fitting of new timber repairs.

Localised Timber Splicing Instead of Unnecessary Replacement

Where practical, a localised splice repair can preserve the sound parts of an existing window. We cut out damaged timber and formed new sections to suit the existing profiles and surrounding joinery.

Some areas required larger timber repairs, particularly around vulnerable lower sections and corners. Other smaller defects could be repaired with a specialist epoxy system designed for timber restoration.

We also allowed for replacement glazing beads where necessary and worked through the windows once their condition had been fully exposed.

Repairing Existing Timber Windows

Good timber window repair is about making an honest assessment of what can be retained and what needs replacing. Not every damaged window requires complete replacement.

After the repairs were complete, the windows were left structurally sound and ready for final finishing.
