Bespoke Alcove Cupboards & Window Shutters Review in Lincoln
This alcove cupboards and window shutters Lincoln project involved two separate pieces of bespoke joinery made for the same property.
Our client first asked Radial Joinery to make two alcove cupboards for a home office. The design needed to match original cupboards already found in the kitchen as closely as possible.
After the cupboards were completed, the client asked us to manufacture traditional window shutters based on original shutters elsewhere in the house.
Both projects show how purpose-made joinery can introduce practical new features without making them feel out of place within an established property.
Alcove Cupboards Made to Match Original Joinery
The first part of the work involved making two bespoke cupboards for the alcoves within the client’s office.
Rather than using standard fitted furniture, we designed the cupboards around the available openings. We also took their appearance from the original cupboards in the kitchen.
This allowed the new joinery to feel connected to the rest of the property instead of looking like a noticeably modern addition.

Window Shutters Made to Match the Originals
The client was pleased with the alcove cupboards and later asked us to make a set of bespoke window shutters.
The new shutters needed to match original shutters already present in the living room. We used those existing features as the reference for the proportions, panel layout and overall appearance.
The completed shutters now look appropriate for the property and, as the client explained in the review, appear as though they have always been there.

Client Review
“I have used Radial Joinery for a number of projects in my house and the quality of work is exceptional. Ian has made two alcove cupboards for my office room to match as closely as possible to some original cupboards in my kitchen. I was so pleased with these that I also asked Ian whether he could make some shutters to match some original ones in my living room. The finished result is excellent and they really look like they’ve always been here. Ian isn’t only great at what he does but he’s a pleasure to work with, we are currently planning the next project which I’m really looking forward to.”

Bespoke Joinery Designed Around the Property
The key to both projects was studying what already existed within the house.
The aim was not simply to fill the alcoves or cover the windows. Each new item needed to feel like a natural part of the property.
Making the cupboards and shutters specifically for their individual openings allowed us to control the sizes, proportions and details. It also helped the new work relate more closely to the original joinery.
This work forms part of our fitted storage furniture in Lincoln, heritage and period joinery and wider bespoke joinery services in Lincoln.
